I am not a photographer, please remember that. People have asked for comparison photos of Ice, so I shot a few today. I added the hardcover of AFFC, and a quarter, for perspective, in addition to Longclaw and Needle of course for those who have them. Ice can be purchased here.

WoW I had no idea that the handle was that much bigger than Longclaw. I have Longclaw and hope to have Ice soon after release….great pics btw

  6. Is it possible to sharpen Ice without ruining the “Valyrian” finish?

  7. with the way the swords lay in the top and bottom photograph, the tips of the blades of Ice and Longclaw will be next to eachother at the same height, will they not?

  8. Bob R, It seems that Ice is a “laser etched” sword and cannot be sharpened without ruining the finish. Even the Damascus version of Longclaw would have to be acid dipped after sharpening to retain the wave pattern, and perhaps several times to achieve an even pattern. There is a lot of work that goes into bringing out “colored” layers of steel.

  9. The damascus does not need acid. That is how the metal naturally is.

You could sharpen one of our faux-damascus stainless swords, but the pattern would, obviously, not continue then all the way to the sword edge as you would have ground some of it away.

With the damascus you would still see it, as the pattern is in the metal itself and not just topical.

Anne, the blades are almost the same length, Ice gets most of it’s extra overall length from the grip.

  10. Hello
    Any news on shipments?

I can’t wait. Beautiful swords. My wall is definitely in need of the third blade. I’m with Dale, is there an update on when exactly Ice will start shipping?

  12. hey, how bout you show me the whole damn sword in the pic? you know, in case i want to see the wgole item i’m buying.

  13. The pictures on the product purchase page in the shop are of the full sword.

These candid photos… the sword is so large it wouldn’t fit into the frame. I suppose maybe if I stood on a chair and looked down I’d get the distance needed. But that wasn’t what I was trying to do. I was trying to get shots of the detail in the handle area.

If you want to see full photos (professionally done) you can find them here:

  14. Is the Longclaw on the picture a normal version or the damascus one?
And is the difference between the 2 Longclaws distinguishable or are they more or less the same(blade colour etc)?

  15. It is the Damascus Longclaw pictured.

And yes, they are readily distinguishable. The damascus is a much darker steel.

  16. Ordered my Ice last weekend and cannot wait so hence the question: any idea when you’ll start sending them out? Thanks a lot

  17. I want to be conservative and say April, March is possible, but we’re usually wrong, so I want to say early April. I’ll know more by the end of February.

  18. Thanks for the very promp response Valyrian. Really looking forward to Ice – my Longclaw is just great (very jealous of you lot who could afford the Damascus version). When will we see some designs for the Warhammer? Cheers

Is there any new information on a shipping date for Ice?

  20. The factory keeps pushing it back with delays. With the most recent date from them, the in your hand date for customers is probably early June, unfortunately.

  21. Valyrian, can you make some photos of someone holding Ice? I just want to get a clearer image in my mind of the sword’s dimensions. Inches simply don’t do the trick for me.

Also, how heavy is the sword itself and the plaque? I’ll need to know this cuz the walls in my room don’t seem capable of holding a lot of weight…
