Needle, Sword of Arya Stark

Needle, Sword of Arya Stark

"Stick them with the pointy end."

Before setting off for The Wall, Jon Snow, Arya Stark's bastard half brother, gifted her a sword. After noticing Arya's enthusiasm for sword play Jon had Mikken, whose mark adorns the blade, create a sword specifically to suit Arya's physique. Lighter, thinner, and smaller than a typical Westeros blade, the style was closer to that of Braavos across the Narrow Sea, to be used for thusting and slashing, style of combat more suited to the quick and agile, rather than those with raw strength. Jon christened the sword Needle, in homage to Arya's least favorite hobby of needlework.

After arriving in King's Landing, Arya's father, Eddard Stark, then the King's Hand, hired Syrio Forel, a Braavosi waterdancer, to teach Arya how to use her new blade. Syrio taught her that and more, preparing her for what was to come later. When Arya would return from practice sweaty and sore, and Septa Mordane would ask where she had been, Arya could truthfully say she had been doing "Needlework" all along.

Lovely
"Finally received Needle (#0034): The box itself convince you it's a quality product. Everything is inside for the blade to be protected and displayed. The blade itself looks great, I love the grip with leather. My 5 year old could carry it so I'm sure Arya could wield it without problem. I think the hilt might be a bit broad and the grip itself more fitting to a man's hand than little girl's one (could be a little bit smaller) but that's nitpicking because it really looks great and I can't wait to hook it proudly on the wall. Eye Catching!
"I received my Needle (#0070) today, and I have to say I was even more pleased with it than I had hoped to be. Very well made piece. It looks great hanging on the wall, but it will be that much sweeter when a Damascus Longclaw is hanging beside it!! Keep up the good work! PS... I'd also like to point out how appreciative I am that Valyrian Steel takes so much care in packaging and shipping their goods. Nothing worse than receiving something in the mail that has been beaten up and damaged. Needle arrived in perfect condition!!"

Another great sword
"I am the happy owner of Needle (number 0045, proving they hold true to their random shipping as I have an APO address overseas). The sword itself while small has excellent quality and even pretty good balance for a decarative item. My only complaint is that the sword had some minor marks on the blade and I had to use a metal polish to get them off, glass cleaner wouldn't do it. Other than that minor gripe I'm quite pleased to have this sword sitting in the center of my living room with Longclaw to the right and an empty space for Ice."

Fantasy Made Real
"It's not just the craftsmanship and detail that went into the blade - which is superb. It is the way Valyrian Steel managed to realize the story, the imaginings, the very words written down by Martin himself and give them true form. Like a play being performed at its best, these swords truly represent what Martin wanted us to see from his universe. Thanks for such phenomenal work!"

Winter is Coming
"What a great sword! The details in the handle are very well done and I love the wolf stamp, that would be there from the castle's blacksmith. All around a great product and worthy of anyone collection."

Comment: "Can I have somemore please"
"My 21 year old daughter (at 5' 2") has decided that Needle belongs in her room. I don't go in her room as a rule, but now I most certainly will not. That means I will need another Needle for my collection. Thank you George for such a wonderful journey! Albuquerque Lew"

Once again, Valyrian Steel does it!
"After receiving Longclaw and seeing the quality there, I had high hopes for Needle. I was definitely NOT disappointed! Needle is almost exactly what I had envisioned when reading the books. Yes, the certificate is unnumbered, but this review is about the sword, and as far as I'm concerned, it's flawless. Looking forward to the next offerings in the series, and I know I have nothing to worry about when it comes to details. Thanks for the hard work you guys are putting into these swords!"

Lovely.
"Tiny, as expected. Would've been nice if the signed certificate were numbered (mine was #1520 on the outside of the box). I'm going to use it to sabre open champagne. (Longclaw wasn't so good for that.) Love the handle."
